3 Man Central Midfield Setup.

Introduction.

A five man midfield is becoming increasingly popular within football, especially within Football Manager. Consisting of 3 central midfielders and 2 wingers/inside forwards, the 5 man midfield not only offers defensive security but also potency when going forward. One of the major problems within FM is what roles to give the 3 central midfielders, something I aim to share my views on within this article.

The Elements.

The Destroyer: A man who is willing to go in for tackles breaking up the oppositions play and making crucial tackles. Within the FM match engine this role would equate to either a Ball Winning Midfielder or an Anchor Man. Key attributes within FM include; Marking, Tackling, Concentration, Heading, Positioning, Strength, Anticipation, Stamina & Bravery.

The Worker: Often referred to as the midfield general. As good in defensive phases as he is in attacking phases. Gets around the pitch and generally makes opponents time on the ball a hassle. Again, within FM this role would equate to a Box to Box Midfielder. Key attributes within FM include; Stamina, Work Rate, Decisions, Positioning, Anticipation and Technique.

The Playmaker: A player who will create chances for your front man/men. Will link the play between midfield and attack, allowing your teams forward moves to flow with more ease. There are a couple of roles within FM that describe this role, any of Advanced Playmaker, Deep lying Playmaker or Attacking Midfielder. Key Attributes with FM include; First Touch, Passing, Technique, Flair, Creativity & Decisions.

Why would I use this Method?

As mentioned earlier, the 5 man midfield is becoming ever more popular. Why? Well having 3 in central midfield allows for your side to control the midfield, giving you a man advantage against all 2 man central midfield formations. There is only 3 ways to set up your 3 central midfielders, either a DM with 2 MC's, 3 MC's or finally 2 MC's and an AMC. Below you will see three popular set ups using the destroyer, playmaker and worker idea;

Against any 2 man central midfield you will have a man free at all times. This gives you a chance to have your playmaker roam into space, or provide yourself with a central midfield sweeper, depending on how your side is holding up defensively or offensively. Crowding out the midfield allows you to assert pressure upon the opposition high up the pitch, thus meaning a quicker route to goal.

I know this is not a new thing when it comes to setting up a team, hopefully though this will help you understand what each player needs to do for the idea to work. I hope you enjoyed this article.

Expatriate Management

While listening to this awesome song, I (for who know what reason) had an idea. Players in the game often have dual nationalities. What if some of these players swapped nations? So, I looked up players from Barbados, and lo and behold I found a one Ashley Cole. One of the top Left Backs in the Premiership (and maybe world) had Barbadian as a secondary nationality. What would Barbados be like if they had access to Ashley Cole on the left flank? How would you set the squad up to accommodate him?

Other players emerged. Rio Ferdinand is Saint Lucian. Saint Lucia is even more obscure than Barbados. Now Rio is fading and will not be around forever, but that would be one hell of an addition to the squad. What if you could add Giuseppe Rossi to the American rosters? How would Mario Gomez fit into La Furia Roja? France provides another interesting example - what would the various African nations look like with their top French players back? Or how would those French dependencies look with them? You probably would not have a complete squad, but you would certainly have a few players in a class above the rest. Or as a big nation, you might have that one player you desperately need.

So, a discussion. If you want a gander, pick a nation and see what players are not playing from that nation. Then think about the impact they would have on a side. This is probably more fun with small nations, but it can work with the big ones.

If Spain had Mario Gomez to select from, how would that impact your selection and style?

How would you accommodate something like Cole on Barbados or Ferdinand on Saint Lucia?

If you can access a surplus of higher class players at a position (Saint Lucia can get a lot of DCs), how do you fit them into a squad? Do you try?

16 saves, more than one winner?

With the European Championships upon us I've decided to a challenge/current game whatever on the European Championships. The plan is to win as many European Championship by going the 16 teams involved in this years tournament.

I've loaded up just the Irish league and holidayed to May, obviously this won't give me the real Euro championships or the full 16 teams who qualified but I will try get as many teams done out of the first save before I work out ways to ensure the others qualify.

Welcome to my little corner of FM-View. My name is minneapolisJon, and I do background packs. I've released megapacks for 132 leagues now in three seperate packs and many updates. I have also released a National Stadia pack, containing every nation in the game. I want to do more. Help me out by suggesting leagues to do.

I'm currently over 2,400 stadiums in all of my megapacks and updates (as of 30 June, 2011). I have put many, many hours into these shots, and love creating BG's for people. I think that it's such a little thing, but a little thing that makes a huge difference to the playing experience - With my packs, you get to see where every game is taking place - the actual stadium, the actual fans. It was something that I discovered a year ago - I downloaded a background pack. After I downloaded skins, logos, kits...I figured "why not?" I fell in love. It was the biggest change in my personal gameplay experience. Many backgrounds have been done - there are a ton out there. Take a look. I did. I decided that the only thing that would make doing this worthwhile was to make them stand out. A clear shot, where you can read the adboards. A widescreen shot, where the images are not stretched. Those were my standards, and they still are. Look at the release pages to see some of the shots.

This is where I put up the main info on things I am working on, or at least plan on working on when I get around to it. I take requests, but be patient - I take my time with these shots, and will not release something that is below my standards. Some people are still waiting from last year. That's okay - because they know that when it is quality, it takes time. (I miss almost all of my ETA dates) I am proud of the work that I have done, and I am honored that you stopped by to see what's cooking in the kitchen.

Geordie is a legand, and was the one whose packs inspired me to get into GFX in the first place. His BG's are awesome, and with his level of skill coupled with my level of OCD for getting every team possible - well, you see that this is kind of a match made in heaven.
