JEONBUK HYUNDAI MOTORS

Okay, so you have arrived in South Korea, where you will be looking for glory in the K-League. The South Korean league is composed of 15 teams which play each other twice, meaning there are 28 games in a completed season. The rules for the competition are pretty straight forward, you can name six substitutes and can use three, but you must name a goalkeeper on the bench. No crazy having your keeper sent off and putting the big 6’4” centre back in goal. There is a limit of foreign players. You can have up to 4 foreigners (non South Koreans) however only 3 outside of Asia. Which means you could have 4 Asian non South Koreans, but only 3 Brazilans for example. The top four teams in the division qualify for the Asian Champions League, where the very best of Asia battle it out to be crowned Champion of Asia. The top six teams qualify for the Championship playoff to see who will be champions. Winning the league gets you a place in the final, if you scrape into 6th place, you must dispute two playoff matches before the Korean "Superbowl". The season starts in March and carries through until November, much like some northern countries in Europe. Now that your aquainted with the league system let me impart what challenge is and who you will be managing.

Jeonbuk are a team that should be pushing for Continental qualification, realistically you shouldn’t be winning the league as you are predicted to finish 6th in your first season. Well your here to change this assessment.
Jeonbuk Hyundai is based in Jeonju, in the Jeonbuk region of South Korea. Jeonju falls on centrally in South Korea, not far from the west coast of South Korea. Jeonju itself is the is somewhat of a tourist centre where one can enjoy famous Korean food and visit many Korean historical buildings intertwined with religious festivals. Needless to say they are not averse to the odd visitor or two.
Jeonbuk FC was founded in January 1993 under the original name of Wansan FC. The club joined the Korean League in 1994 after changing its name to 'Jeonbuk Buffalo FC'. The team began losing money and did not live up to expectations, even though there was a heavy fan support. Jeonbuk Buffalo was entrusted to the KPFL, and Hyundai Motors took over Jeonbuk FC on December 12, 1994.
Since 1993, Jeonbuk have not seriously challenged for the Korean League title, often languishing in mid-table. After Choi Gang-hee was appointed manager in July 2005, Jeonbuk won the Korean FA Cup in December of that year. In 2006, Jeonbuk finished a disappointing eleventh in the Korean League; however the season had a surprising ending, as Jeonbuk won their first AFC Champions Cup final in Homs, Syria. En route to the final they defeated the champions of Japan and China, Gamba Osaka and Dalian Shide, and they also beat Ulsan Horang-i, the champion of Korea, in the semi-final. They triumphed 3-2 on aggregate over Al-Karama, the champion of Syria, in the final.

Jeonbuk play at the Jeonbuk Castle renamed from the Jeonbuk World Cup Stadium, built to host the 2002 World Cup, a 43,348 seater stadium.
Chairman Chung Mong-Koo has called you into his office and asked you to turn around Jeonbuk into an Asian powerhouse by any means necessary. Your task is to improve Jeonbuk back to the heady days when the club won the AFC Champions League. The club have never won the K-League and the chairman stresses the importance to bring the Korean title to the city. With a budget of around £1m to spend there is a little wheeling and dealing to be done.
With the club also in the AFC Champions League there is also an opportunity to bring continental glory to the club.
