One area of FMV that has turned out some great reads lately is the Current Game area and so we are starting this award: Current Game of the Week! Apologies for the trophy graphic but it's the best I could do on short notice ;)

Our inaugural competitors are AlexBRFC's "AFC Telford United", upthehammers' "The Hammers", Marshall's "Feeling the Burn", and Blaze's "Espanyol"

A bit about our contenders:
AlexBRFC takes us on a journey to the lower leagues of the English football pyramid as he tries to achieve success with lowly AFC Telford United. It's an easy to read, monthly update style and the journey has attracted a lot of views so far - if you have not read about it then I can highly recommend you to do so now!

In the Premiership upthehammers takes over his beloved West Ham United. He is 5 years into things and has made significant strides in the league, with more success sure to follow. Very easy and interesting to follow it's a regularly updated thread that is minimalistic but contains all you want to know. It's got a lot of interest lately and that is well deserved.

Marshall has decided to give updates of his Burnley game in more of a story style, and it looks fantastic. The updates usually consist of a match report, signing, and/or seasonal update in the form of a Sky Sports web article, which as well as looking stylish also helps it stand out. This well designed thread has caught the eye for the stylish look as well as some mouthwatering headlines, and tells the tale of Burnley's struggles under the new manager to try and not only stay in the Premiership, but to compete further up the table.

Spain's Primera is the setting for Blaze's game as he tries to rebuild Espanyol into a force in the league and Europe. With Real Madrid and local rivals Barcelona monopolising the league titles in recent years it's never going to be an easy task but Blaze gives it a great shot with some great results along the way. His bi-seasonal updates contain all the results from the games in a clear format, whilst the yearly updates he has started doing contain nearly as much information but are easier to digest.

Please cast your votes for your favourite thread and thanks to all those that have created CG threads.

I voted for upthehammer's last night, although all 4 are epic. Personally for me it was between Hammers and Espanyol, I just feel this has been going a while longer and is a better story really, I don't know what's going to happen year after year where as with Espanyol it's got to a point where anything but world domination is a failure.

This vote will run until Friday 26th February 2010, at which point we will be deciding who will go into next week's vote for the best CG thread!

I'm not going to vote because in all honesty I haven't been looking at the CG's on here for a long time but now I'm getting more and more into FM10 I will do. I've read through Blaze's game and it's already got to that point where he's winning everything so I don't feel like I've been on "the journey" with him. UTH has achieved real progress in a realistic time-scale but for me personally it lacks that dramatic write-up that I prefer to read. It's still a great contribution though.

Personally I tend not to read through the games which are just a few words and the end of season screenshots. I like to be taken through the season, not necessarily blow by blow, but in such a way that I feel I know how the gamer was feeling as the season progressed. The high, lows, and other odd little caveats that crop up as you go along.

For future reference, should the CGotW be voted on based on how it was updated during the week, the achievements made during the week or just the one which you have read the most through the week? The only reason I ask is that I think a weekly competition might be a little tough as most players only provide one or two updates during a 7 day period. So those who hammer out a lot more would be at a distinct advantage than if it were on a monthly basis.

This is something I plan of discussing with other staff whether it would work better as a monthly format or not. The emphasis should definitely be on quality over quantity, so while we work out a few ideas and bugs in the format we are running this as a weekly thing (possible this and the next planned for now) and see how it goes.

Being fair I've voted for Hammer's current game, my game has probably become a little tedious in me running away with everything it seems - and to be fair, I'm getting a little bored of it myself. I'm thinking of starting up with a relegation battler in the top-flight, and see where that journey takes me. I think things got far too easy for me after the Kuwait fellow took me over!

Ok just to let you know we are turning this into CG of the Month after this to give everyone a more fair chance to get their threads going. I also want to ask if anyone wants to nominate some of the threads that have cropped up (and those that will crop up before the next vote starts), to just drop a comment or link here so the staff can take a look and will then pick out our next threads to compete.

Cheers

Congratulations to UpTheHammers for winning this with his great story about the rise and rise of West Ham United!

Sorry that it's taken a while to sort this out but I have been working a lot and trying to sort out other bits and pieces. This is moving to a monthly feature now, so it gives you all more time to read the threads and decide for yourselves which one deserves your vote.
